And The Winner Is...

So close.

With any luck, Eric Alba, my most excellent friend and Deep End Dining collaborator, will walk away with one of these golden beauties on September 25, 2006.

It's been over twenty years since I met Eric Alba when I was working my first summer job at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Since then we've had many unforgettable adventures at home and abroad. These days we spend a lot of time on the phone just reminiscing about the "good old days" while knocking back many vodka cranberries. He patiently (most of the time) tolerates my inebriated gabbing even though he's in a time zone three hours ahead of mine. It's wonderful to see him continue to grow and achieve great things in his craft of visual effects – although he's also an extraordinary photographer with a witty eye. (Check out his website.)

Eric has been nominated for an Emmy for his work on the National Geographic and PBS four-part documentary Strange Days on Planet Earth hosted by Edward Norton. Strange Days on Planet Earth is a riveting and sobering investigative documentary on how man's interaction with his environment has adversely affected the Earth's. This series is more than just "an inconvenient truth", it reveals an incomprehensible reality.

That's pretty frickin cool! Congrats on the nom to Eric, and good luck on awards night!

BTW, I didn't know you worked at Disneyland. I also did. Merchandise, over in Adventureland/Frontierland, summers of '93, '94. The highlight of my stint, Fantasmic Crowd Control, where I got to yell at people (nicely of course), and wave that landing strip flashlight wand.

That is exciting news! I second what Elmo said. A big congratulations to Eric! This is actually the first Emmy nomination I've even heard about this year. I guess I don't watch enough TV. Unless you count AZN television.

Next to finding and eating amazing cuisine, Eddie's other greatest talent is embarassing me in public for his own pleasure.

It came as a surprise to me since there were so many great programs this year. While I thought to myself that the work we did on "Strange Days..." was visually different, I never thought people in the documentary world would get it.

"It's an honor just to be nominated" sounds cliche but I sincerely mean it.

elmomonster - I did crowd control on Main Street plenty of times, I think there should be a site called "Overheard at Crowd Control" to post all the great quotes and questions you hear. "What time does the 9 O'clock parade start?" is in my top 5.

juliet - I'm pretty sure all the nominations have been announced with ceremonies in the coming weeks. The News and Documentary (in which I am nominated) ceremony takes place in New York, next month.

Fingers are crossed but like I said, just the nomination is cool.
